NoShade

Overview

NoShade is a nightshade-checking tool that lets you scan a barcode, type a UPC, or paste ingredients to identify nightshade and potential nightshade items. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.

Information We Collect

• Camera access: If you choose to scan a barcode, your device camera is used. We do not record or store video.
• Product lookups: When you scan a barcode or type a UPC, the app queries Open Food Facts to retrieve product data.
• Saved items on device: Items you save are stored locally on your device using browser storage.
• Community list: When you scan a nightshade-free product, the barcode and basic product details (title, brand, quantity) may be sent to the community database to improve the shared list.

How We Use Information

• To identify nightshade ingredients from the data you provide.
• To retrieve product details from Open Food Facts.
• To save your personal list locally on your device.
• To improve the shared community list of nightshade-free products.

Third-Party Services

• Open Food Facts: Used for product data lookups.
• Supabase: Used to store community scan data and votes.
• Affiliate Links: If you choose to use affiliate links (e.g., Instacart or Amazon), you will be taken to those services where their own privacy policies apply.

Data Retention

Saved items on your device remain until you clear them. Community scan data is retained to maintain the shared list and improve recommendations.

Children’s Privacy

This app is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
